Yesterday I was coming to chennai in a a/c bus. I rarely come in a/c bus because of the cost involved but there are buses run by "City Express" which are cheap enough for junta like me to come to chennai in the comfort of a/c .. Well coming to the nuts and bolts .. My friend bought a copy of "Times of India" just for timepass reading during the journey .. One article caught my eye ..
" 50% of Indian Students Lose their virginity during College "
I read the article with a raised eye-brow .. half thinking "what a insane article" and half thinking "this should be interesting" .. I read on .. The article was elaborating more on the insane title it had .. It also said that 60% of the guys want to live their life with the one they lost their virginity with and suprisingly only 40% of the girls wanted to live with the one they slept with first .. !!! ..
I feel this is total bull-shit .. No way 50% of 20yr old indians are non-virgins .. That means every second person you meet should be a non-virgin .. which obviously is not .. actually NO ONE of my friends is a non-virgin .. well I am from a national college and given the rules (or the absence of it), i ought to know someone in that 50% .. lol .. I don't know where do these media people come up with these absurd facts .. !! .. Its total crap .. Even if it was true, I feel that in South India (below the narmada river) the percentage of non-virgin 20yr olds might be around some 5% .. does that mean 95% of the north-indians are non-virgins at 20 .. !!!!!!!! ..
I am not against pre-marital sex or anything but then I believe that it is just not in Indian culture .. When in rome, do as the romans do .. When in India, be Indian .. and cultures cannot be compared .. you cannot say western culture is better or asian culture is better .. it's like comparing one kg and one km .. makes no sense ..
and even if this fact is true, is it a healthy trend ?? .. one more point was that in the article they had not stated the source of the survey or how many people had been surveyed .. i think a silly teenager in times of india might have wanted to spice up the paper and that's what he just did .. by putting up some baseless idiocracy .. lol .. makkalae, what are your opinions ???
On the lighter side, I think India is just going behind in times .. ;)
Atleast half the adolescent Indians are sane

Hey, I totally agree with you. the paper/survey is lying. My cousin has been in a long term relationship with his girlfriend for over 7 years now(they've been together since 11th grade) and still haven't had sex(or so he tells me) But even regardless of that, I find it unbelievable that they claim only 50% of 20 yr olds are virgins. but you know, college mostly ends at about age 22...
even I wanted to blog on this topic da... nice that u have posted it... even I believe what they have posted in the magazine is crap...
There's a good reason ToI is called 'Tabloid of India'. I wonder how many people they polled, where all they polled, what questions they asked, etc. I'm sure if those figures come to light, then there'll be some discrepancy.
However, I disagree with what you've said here, 'I feel that in South India (below the narmada river) the percentage of non-virgin 20yr olds might be around some 5% .. does that mean 95% of the north-indians are non-virgins at 20'
What does 95% of the NIs being non-virgins have to do with 5% of SIs? You can't compare percentages when the sample sizes aren't the same, can you?
assuming NI's are equal in number to SI's .. and if 50% of indian's are non-virgins and only 5% of SI's are non-virgins .. then 95% of NI's shud be non-virgins because the average of 95 and 5 is 50 .. !!! ..
This is great info to know.
